  Wailing Wall/Ha-Kotel HaMa'aravi

The holiest Jewish site, the Wailing Wall or Western Wall (Kotel HaMa'aravi), as it is now officially known is a surviving section of the wall that surrounded the Temple Mount at the end of the Second Temple period. Since 1967 a densely built-up area in front of the wall has been cleared to make a large open space. The section of this area nearest the wall has been railed off and ranks as a synagogue, in which men go to the left and women to the right. This is where great religious ceremonies take place and army recruits are sworn in. Today, the Western Wall is a symbol of longing for Jerusalem and serves as a site of worship. The worshippers and visitors often place notes in the Kotel with requests and prayers.

Ha-Kotel Tunnel - System of underground tunnels constituting a continuous chain of history from the times of the Hasmoneans until today. There are dynamic illustrative resources at the place, such as models, animation films and even an original street discovered underground, over which visitors walk on a glass floor.
