Tourists insurance cover in Israel is different from other countries in the world. It is different since the insurance liabilities are divided between the government and the insurance companies. Notably in the following aspects:
- The “motor vehicles victims” law covers any body injuries caused by road accidents and includes tourists.
- Any body injury to any person (including tourists) caused by an act of terror is covered by the government.
Therefore certain insurance companies have excluded Israel from the list of countries covered by their policies.
Important: Please, verify with your insurance agent whether your policy covers Israel. In any case it is not advisable to go anywhere without travel insurance. In case you do not have one we have built, for your convenience, a solid travel insurance policy
Be prepared, do not count on anyone!!
In case of need here are a few travel insurance tips.
1. Acquire the policy in advance, so you could read the policy and its terms. Some things may require clarification or negotiation prior to your departure.
2. Do not undergo medical procedures without notifying the insurance company.
3. Be sure to keep any documentation and receipts of medical treatments or procedures. These would be obligatory in case of claim.
4. Be sure to involve the insurance company in any case that requires activating your policy.
5. Insurance companies usually cover rescue by air only when requested and only if the customer pays in advance. Take the matter under consideration as it's usually a relatively low amount ($15-20 for the entire stay) and could be worth it. Rescue by air, when done privately, could cost thousands of dollars.
6. Your hotel concierge can connect you with the house doctor. Also, private
emergency rooms operate in the major cities.
