The synagogue is probably one of the most beautiful lesser-known ancient synagogues in Israel. It is built of black basalt, in the form of a basilica and adorned with ornate carvings of plants, people crushing grapes with their feet, and animals: lions, an eagle, and a bird pecking at a bunch of grapes.
Various dates have been ascribed to the synagogue at Corazin. It was apparently built initially in the late third or early fourth centuries CE.
