The Rockefeller Museum, formerly the Palestine Archaeological Museum, is an archaeological museum located in East Jerusalem, Northeast of the Old City, that houses a vast collection of regional archeology unearthed in excavations conducted in the country mainly during the time of the British Mandate (1919–1948). The Archeological material is desplayed in chronological order ranging in date from the Stone Age to the 18th century.
The museum, dominated by its massive tower, is one of Israel's most important museums and named after John D. Rockefeller, who financed its construction in 1927 with a gift of 2million dollars . It was opened to the public in 1938 . Attached to the museum is a large library.
