Khan el-Umdan ("Khan of the Columns"), was built on the foundations of the crusaders' Dominican monastery. The khan received its name from the granite and porphyry columns which Ahmed el-Jazzar brought from Caesarea during its construction. Over the north entrance is a clock-tower commemorating Sultan Abdul Hamid's jubilee in 1906. The site overlooks the marina and port of Acre. In clear weather, Haifa and the Carmel mountain chain can also be seen.
