Capernaum (Kfar Nachum) was a Jewish city situated on the coast of the Sea of Galilee from which Jesus based his Galilean activities. There are two main attractions in the village – the church and the synagogue. Kfar Nachum is the only place where a large synagogue was found next to a church. Considering the tension between Jews and Christians under Byzantine rule, their proximity is remarkable. This is a must for all pilgrims.
