  Mamshit (Mampsis)

Mamshit, known also  as  Mampsis, is the only walled city of the Nabateans. It was pivotal city in  the Nabateanod era because it sat on the route from the Idumean Mountains (Petra) to the Arava, which passed through Ma'ale Akrabim and continued on to Beersheva or to Hebron and Jerusalem. Mampsis includes ruins from three periods: Nabatean, Roman and Byzantine. The town is entered through the north gate in the town walls.
Mamshit is on Route 25 (Beersheva-Dimona) about 8 kilometers from Dimona in the direction of Rotem junction.
