6 kms/4 miles northeast of Nazareth is the village of Cana (kfar kana). According to Christian tradition, this is where Jesus performed his first miracle, transforming water into wine. In the center of Cana is a franciscan church consecrated in 1883 on the ruins of a 6th century church. Tradition has it that it occupies the site of the house in which the marriage was celebrated. The church presents an old jar, claimed to be one of the six in which the water was changed.
